niques to properly and consistently obtain high quality postmortem friction ridge prints from decedents. After watching the series, viewers should feel empowered, educated and confident that even on the toughest of cases most decedents can still be printed as long as the hands still possess the necessary layers of skin for printing.

This following documents were produced by the Deceased Persons Identification (DPI) Services Best Practices Focus Group, formed to close the identification gap for unknown deceased individuals. This group includes subject matter experts from the FBI, federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies; medical examiners and coroners; the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; the Black and Missing Foundation; the Doe Network; and the National Consortium of Justice Information and Statistics.

Recording Legible Fingerprints
The FBI’s Next Generation Identification system is the largest biometric database of criminals in the world, and clear, legible fingerprints form the foundation of its master fingerprint file. Agencies submitting fingerprints to the FBI should be aware of the proper procedures for recording fingerprints. The following links will assist in obtaining fingerprints that meet Bureau standards.
