Rapid DNA

Rapid DNA, or "Rapid DNA Analysis," describes the fully automated (hands-free) process of developing a CODIS Core STR profile from a reference sample buccal swab. The "swab in – profile out" process consists of automated extraction, amplification, separation, detection and allele calling without human intervention. As required by the Rapid DNA Act of 2017, National Booking Standards and Procedures for the use of Rapid DNA in the booking environment are currently published on the FBI Laboratory Division’s Rapid DNA Analysis page as well as further information regarding Rapid DNA technology. When considering the purchase of forensic DNA equipment and supplies, we recommend contact with your state or local CODIS administrator.
